Pharrell Williams has amazing news about the future of his music festival.
On Wednesday, November 2, the "Cash In Cash Out" artist announced Something In The Water Festival will return to his hometown of Virginia Beach in 2023. Williams confirmed the news while he was hosting the second day of the Mighty Dream Forum in Norfolk, Va. He looked pleased as he revealed the festival's homecoming alongside Deputy City Manager Taylor Adams, City Manager Patrick Duhaney, Council Member Aaron Rouse and Mayor Bobby Dyer.
"This is really about the 757. It's always been about the 757," Pharrell said.
"Something In The Water is returning to Virginia Beach in 2023" he continued. "The festival will be back [on] the last weekend in April, the 28th, the 29th and the 30th."
After debuting the festival in 2019, Pharrell postponed Something In The Water for two years due to the pandemic. While in the process of reviving this year's edition, the super producer got involved in a feud with Virginia Beach city officials last October over the "toxic energy" surrounding the death of his cousin, Donovan Lynch, at the hands of police. Once he decided to move the festival, Williams brought it down to Washington, D.C. during Juneteenth weekend.
The show featured performances from his phriends like Roddy Ricch, Ozuna, Ja Rule & Ashanti, N.O.R.E., SZA, Justin Timberlake and a Clipse reunion. 21 Savage and Tyler, the Creator were also in the building to perform their recent collaboration with Pharrell "Cash In Cash Out."
“The demand for the festival in Virginia Beach and The 757 — among the people — has never wavered. If anything, it has only intensified,” Williams said in a statement. “College Beach Weekend continues every year, and the city of Virginia Beach leaders have been eager to reconcile and move forward. The environment is finally optimized for return, and the announcement will delight everyone — from HBCU students across the eastern USA to the hundreds of small businesses who will play a role in the festival to the cities within the region and neighborhoods that will serve as hosts. I need to come back home. There is a pervasive feeling by almost everyone that the festival belongs in Virginia Beach, and the time is right to bring it back.”
The lineup hasn't been revealed just yet. Nonetheless, tickets for Something In The Water 2023 go on sale November 5.
