The latest Apple gossip lighting up Twitter is #iphonegold. That's right, reports surfaced on Monday that the new iPhone, expected to be unveiled on September 10th, will be available in black, white and -- for the first time ever -- gold.

Both TechCrunch and All Things D are reporting that the new iPhone would not be blinged-out gold, like a gold bar, but will have a more tasteful champagne tone on the backplate and edging with a white face.

As is usually the case, Apple declined to comment.

Analysts don't expect the gold iPhones to create a rush in the U.S., but say they could be "huge" in China. Creative Strategies analyst Tim Bajarin says, "The market is driven by colors, and gold means good luck."
