Colorado, you're not the only place where people can buy pot for recreational use -- dispensaries in Washington state are open for business.
24 outlets have applied for permits to sell marijuana, and a handful of shops opened today (Tuesday) -- including two in the city of Bellingham. However, Washington is expecting a bumpier ride than Colorado experienced in January. Because its medical-marijuana system is unregulated, lawmakers and administrators had to start from scratch in working out regulations for recreational use. And one particular bump in the road is that the state has approved only 100 of about 2600 applications to be licensed growers -- which is likely to result in a shortage.
In Washington, if you're over 21, you can buy up to an ounce of dried marijuana, 16 ounces of pot-infused solids, 72 ounces of pot-infused liquids or seven grams of concentrated marijuana, like hashish.
