Jay Z has been spitting lyrics about the Gods and Earths for years, but the New York Post apparently didn't realize the rapper had ties to the Five Percent Nation until now.
Alarmed by the sight of Jay wearing a Five Percenter medallion at a recent Brooklyn Nets game, the Post published an article this weekend investigating Jay's ties with to a group. The paper writes that the group's core belief is that "black people are the fathers and mothers of civilization, white men are the devil, the Christian god is nothing more than a ghost and only a small percentage of people understand the world."
After exploring the group's Harlem roots and relationship to the Nation of Islam, and emphasizing its anti-white views, the paper says that Jay replied "a little bit" when asked if the medallion had any significance to him.
The Post also contacted Saladin Allah, a spokesperson for the Five Percent's upstate branch. He says, “Jay Z is not an active member — no one has vouched for him. It was always understood that you don’t wear the regalia if you don’t totally subscribe to the life.”
TeeRoy's 2 Cents:
- Jay Z is has rocked that chain before. Guess no one in the mainstream press realized what it means before.
- The Post is just trolling on this one.
- People have talked about Jay's link to the Five Percenters for years.
- This must be why he recorded and toured with Justin Timberlake.
