A Detroit man is finally back behind the wheel of his 1979 Corvette – 33 years after it was stolen.
George Talley's silver 1979 Corvette was stolen from outside his residence in 1981. Cops never found it and he says his insurance company never paid him for it. Then, just last week, the car was found in Mississippi when someone tried to register it with the DMV.
General Motors heard about it, and not wanting to pass up an opportunity to look good in the public eye, offered to retrieve the car for him and bring it back to Detroit, which they did. The car looked the same – except for an added black trim and some signs of wear. A GM spokesperson said they offered to help because the car maker wanted to "do the right thing – put the customer at the center of everything we do. We were able to help a customer and make a friend. It’s a good story." (Detroit Free Press)
