BEYONCE: Smashes iTunes Record
All hail the Queen! Beyonce has smashed the iTunes Store's record by selling 828,773 copies of her new album in just three days.
In a press release, Apple says that the self-titled album sold 617,213 in the U.S. -- also a record -- and has gone to number-one on the iTunes chart in 104 countries. According to Apple and Bey's publicists, although Beyonce has been out for just three days, it's the biggest sales week in her career.
Beyonce is expected to be named the top seller on the Billboard chart when SoundScan figures are released later this week.
TeeRoy's 2 Cents:
- Remember, those are all digital sales. Which means it's almost pure profit for Bey's record company.
- Because of the videos, this album is almost better suited for digital download.
- Part of the reason the album is doing so well is that you can't buy individual tracks. Pretty smart marketing plan.
