A number of Atlanta rappers have recently fallen into legal limbo over unpaid child support. D-Roc of the Ying Yang Twins and Ludacris both claim that their wells have run a little dry -- but Big Boi is fighting back against his estranged wife,Sherlita Patton. The couple split in October and are in the process of getting a divorce.
According to TMZ, the OutKast rapper -- whose real name is Antwan Patton -- filed papers today (Thursday) seeking joint custody of their son, 12-year-old Cross. He also opposes her claim for child and spousal support. Big Boi says he's willing to pay whatever the state of Georgia deems appropriate but argues that Patton is young, healthy, well-educated and can support herself.
They also have an 18-year-old daughter together.
TeeRoy's 2 Cents:
- They need to get tighter laws in the child support division. Maybe a crackdown will make these chicks understand a child does not mean a free ride.
- Family matters are complicated, and we shouldn't be judging what goes on between couples.
- Joint custody is probably best for the boy, so that he gets the benefit of two loving parents.
